Here's to Your Health!
Mandatory Government Health Insurance is Coming.
To legally operate a motor vehicle in the United States you must have auto insurance. Now it seems, to live in America, you’re gonna’ need to buy health insurance. That’s right, you will be obligated to buy health insurance for yourself and your dependents because the current system is unsustainable.
As of this writing, Congress is wrestling with the details to bring a bill to President Obama’s desk for him to sign into law. As I understand it – and I could be wrong – healthcare won’t be free. And not everyone will be covered.
Basically, it appears that there will be a public option. That is an administrative device to force health insurance companies to conform to reasonable and competitive rates and practices. But there have been problems with the concept and no one is happy with the resulting compromises. One big benefit is no more pre-existing condition exclusions. (Insurance companies cannot deny you coverage because of a prior illness. If they do, they will be fined. But the fine is miniscule.)
Bottomline: Running to the emergency room when you become ill is unacceptable. It is too costly. If you don’t have health insurance now, be prepared to fork over some cash. This is a good thing, I think. In any case, America wanted change and it is coming as promised. The program will be phased in over a period of years.
Be Healthy, Live Healthy. Stay Healthy!
