A publication for African-Americans
(Knowledge is Power)

Welcome to An African-American Perspective, a newsletter designed for the residents of North Central Pennsylvania. The purpose of this publication is to bring to the table of discussion, the unique perspectives of African-Americans. With a clear unequivable voice within the wider community, Black Americans can freely present their thoughts and feelings regarding contemporary issues. It is our hope to foster greater understanding and respect for all. Click here for past issues.

News from the hood. June, 2007
THE TOP STORY
The nation's schools are failing
Are our teachers inept? Are today's parents complacent and uncaring? Are students at risk of becoming a permanent class of the poverty-stricken under-educated?

Reports from the National Assessment of Educational Programs (the nation's report card) indicate that many children cannot read at standard proficiency levels! When black children are compared to their white counterparts they fare much worst. What is going on? For more click here.

Influx vs. Originals
Almost invariably, a discussion of African-American solidarity turns negative. “Black people can’t get their act together,” is the general consensus.

Negativity looms large in the consciousness of many African-Americans. Rather than expressing a can-do attitude, we are bombarded with a thousand reasons why something cannot be done. For more click here.
