After India, Nigeria will have the fastest growing population on the planet. In fact, Nigeria is likely to over take the United States in terms of population numbers. The continent of Africa is growing, and is ripe for economic development or invasion and exploitation…again.
According to Mr. John Wilmoth, Director, Population Division, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the children of Africa today will become a massive cohort of a prime production age population in 20-30 years.
Globally, fertility rates have been dropping, but Africa’s birth rate far exceeds the rest of the world. And Europe’s birth rate has basically flat lined. The infertility of highly developed countries means a higher average of older populations – persons living past their prime productive years.
This could signal a shift of world power centers. Instead of New York, Washington DC, London, and Moscow, we could see Lagos, CapeTown and Addis Ababa as the prime centers of the world’s wealth and global politics by 2050.
